Celebrating Steve's 700th dive

Bonaire is, without a doubt, a scuba diver's paradise.  Incredible and easy diving, lots of critters in the water, no critters (sand flys or mosquitoes) on land, friendly and laid back locals,  and great weather.

This was our second trip and, now that we know the program, have learned how to make the most of Bonaire.  A typical day here is to get up around 8am and go eat a big breakfast at the buffet.  After that we'd load up our dive gear and a couple of tanks into the truck.  Typically included was  an ice chest with water, coke and, just possibly, other libations (Amstel Brite with a lime is awesome).  Usually we also threw in some snacks or sandwiches for lunch.  We'd spend the morning diving then head back and hit the pool in the afternoon.

Some hearty souls would even head out and dive the in the afternoon but, most were content exploring the island.  One group went on a cave exploration and had a wonderful time.  Some drove around the island and visited Lac Bay which is a wind surfer and kite surfer haven.  They have a litte beach bar where you can cool off and watch a hundred colorful sails ply back and forth across crystal clear water.  Plenty of sun worshippers there!

Driving around the island is interesting due to a rather large population of ferrel donkeys, decendents of those brought in to work the salt mines and released when it was more economical to use tractors.  The donkeys are now protected by law and roam freely all over.  Bonaire is a wonderful destination for divers and non-divers alike.  It's not a place to go if you want to party until dawn but, if you're looking for a fun, laid back destination with friendly people,  great water, and comfortable temperatures, Bonaire is a place you should visit.
