This is a report on an adventure I just returned from.  At the last minute I was invited to check out what the Juliet and crew have to offer.  If any of you have been to the Bahamas or heard the diving was mediocre at best, let me assure you this can not be further from the truth.  I’ve logged well over 700 dives and this may have been some of the most incredible diving I have ever experienced.  Juliet has the capability to take her guests far from the crowded dive sites. At one point, we were only about 30 miles north of Cuba.  For three or four days, we didn’t see land or any other boats.  The crew has been sailing this area for years and has invested the time to seek out pristine reefs where man’s pollution has had little effect.  The reefs were beautiful and loaded with sea life.  Huge schools of fish surrounded us, turtles would swim right up and check us out, and at one site I could count seven reef sharks swimming around us.  Once we were privileged to witness sponges spawning.  Remember that these reefs were incredibly healthy.  We didn’t see sponges or coral kicked over or broken so this entire area looked like a small city with every chimney smoking.  Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures of this event.  I know some of the other divers had cameras and I’m trying to get in touch with them, in hopes they’ll share.

The boat is comfortable and well equipped.  The crew was attentive and friendly but never pushy.  The food was outstanding and plentiful.  If there wasn’t a meal waiting when we returned from a dive, there were snacks readily available.  I can’t say enough about the boat or the crew.  During the entire week, we only missed one dive due to weather.  The wind came up and, even with Juliet’s clever ladder design, made returning to the boat a little dangerous.  Not to be deterred, the crew mixed up some rum punch and we had a little party instead.

I’m happy to say that I have the Juliet chartered next March when it will be based in Turks and Caicos.  If I had any concerns about this trip, they were put to rest by this recent trip aboard Juliet.  January through April is when the humpback whales make their annual migration through this area.  We’re hoping we’ll be lucky enough to see some of these magnificent creatures.  Even if we don’t, I have no doubt we’ll have some incredible diving and a wonderful time.  Hope you’ll join us.
